Influences

Javier has several people who have influenced him in his career beginning with his parents, David and Yelba. David is very artistic and Yelba is very organized. Javier likes to think that he is a combination of both.

Next is Alfred Hitchcock's attention to detail and planning. "Hitch" is known for editing his film in his head during production; Javier has used this technique in all of his film and video projects.

As a director, Javier also follows Clint Eastwood's relaxed philosophy. Since 2002, Javier has not used the words "Action" or "Cut" based on this theory. Javier states, "I've been getting better performances out of my cast and crew because of this."

Comedy-wise, Javier has always enjoyed the works of the Abraham / Zuckers team (Airplane!, Top Secret!). Conan O'Brien, Mel Brooks and Larry David are also on Javier's list of best comedic writers. Javier states, "Conan is crazy. There's no limit to his humor and I love him for it." Javier also claims that three of his favorite television characters are Jack Tripper (John Ritter, Three's Company), Dan Fielding (John Larroquette, Night Court), and Cosmo Kramer (Michael Richards, Seinfeld).

Javier also enjoys art in various forms (conte, graphite, and graphic design). His two favorite artists, M.C. Escher and Salvador Dalí have inspired the majority of his work.

Javier has always enjoyed discovering new music. He likes "good music" no matter the style. Some of his favorite artists include Kula Shaker, Nick Drake, Trashcan Sinatras, and The Beatles.
