SYNOPSIS

In this experimental narrative, a man's grief over his wife's recent death is expressed

FILM FACTS

Presented at Wisconsin's Own Film Festival (2001).

This is one of Javier C. Rivera's first films -- shot during his 3rd semester in college.

What Went On Inside is an alternate version of a film originally titled Angels in Mrs. Garcia's Room. The original film, edited on a AVID system, had a different soundtrack and a narration by Billy Kispert. "...Inside" was completely reedited on Final Cut Pro and introduced new music and sound effects.

Javier meant to return the red blanket on the chair but decided against it. He explains, "The red blanket was really expensive so I was ready to return it but it was so soft that I had to keep it. It's still on my bed today."

There are two portraits of Mrs. Garcia (Yelba Nibya Rivera). One was done by Javier's old art teacher Doug DeVinny and another by classmate, Gilbert Vasquez. The latter was used ultimiately because of the color and clarity of the image on film.

Yelba Nibya Rivera stressed to Javier how much she did not like the portrait because it made her look older. Javier tried to explain to her that it wouldn't be as apparent on film.

The reedited film was dedicated to L.Q. (which has since been removed from the credits). L.Q. is Javier's ex-fiance.

Several people have complimented the shot around the chair and have asked Javier how he was able to afford a dolly in college. The dolly was actually a tripod on a Red Flyer wagon with rubber wheels. Javier pulled the wagon while Craig operated the camera.

Javier has stressed his disapproval of the new title and wishes he had named it simply Inside.

Javier has been quoted stating that this is one of his favorite projects and that "I felt like I was working on all cylinders with this one. I wanted to create a mood on film and I think I accomplished it. I just wish I had titled it differently."

During the Q&A session at the Wisconsin's Own Film Festival, David F. Rivera O. received multiple praise for his acting. "I was so happy to hear the compliments from strangers. He never believed me when I said it so it great to hear it from others. He never understood how amazing it was to have a character without dialogue be able to speak to an audience."

Craig M. Krason Jr. came up with the idea to "dance" handheld with the Bolex camera during the dancing scene.

Javier directed the entire film in one night (barefoot).

The room was actually David and Yelba's dining room in Wisconsin.

When asked about advice to new filmmakers during the Q&A session, Javier responded, "Keep your receipts in case you have to return a prop or something that you can't afford to keep."
